Your current period of stay and its expiration date are printed on the front of your residence card, along with your residence card number, name, nationality, and visa status. Be sure to check these details.

If you wish to renew your visa, you must apply before the expiration date. For those with a period of stay of six months or longer, renewal applications can be submitted starting approximately three months before expiration.

・New standard: Business structure equivalent to ¥30 million capital scale

・Previous: Approval possible even with zero employees depending on the business plan
・New: At least one full-time employee is required in principle

3. Stricter Requirements for Office Facilities
・Previous: Minimal office space acceptable
・New: Office must match the scale, equipment, and staffing appropriate for the business

Three-Year Transitional Period and “Future Compliance”

Recognizing that meeting the new standards immediately may be difficult, current Business Manager Visa holders are granted a three-year transitional period, ending October 16, 2028.

During this period, renewal applications may be approved even if the new standards are not yet fully met, provided that
・The current business situation is stable, and
・There is a concrete, actionable plan showing how the business will meet the new standards.

Simply maintaining the status quo is not enough. Immigration will check whether the applicant has already begun taking steps toward compliance.

After the Transitional Period (From October 17, 2028)

From October 17, 2028, renewal applications will generally require full compliance with all new standards.
However, exceptions may be made if

Required for Category 2 and Category 3 applicants.
This document proves that the business continues to fall under the same category classification.
Previously, a stamped version was required, but since January 2025 (Reiwa 7), stamped versions have been abolished, and unstamped documents are now acceptable.
